Frank Lloyd Wright (American, 1867-1959)
Midway Gardens, Hyde Park, Chicago. Built 1914, destroyed 1929.
Midway Gardens was an entertainment venue and beer hall built on the site of a demolished amusement park. Wright designed all of the interior fixtures, including the artwork in the tavern room, above. (The large dark rectangle is a built-in cigar stand.) After struggling for 15 years to survive financial problems, changing tastes, and Prohibition, Midway Gardens was destroyed.
